Cotton damask corset Gossard 1920s front lacing L

Style - 1920s underbust corset, ivory coloured with lace detail. Front opening of both busk and lacing, allowing easy adjusting.

Six wide, adjustable suspender straps with fancy metal clips, front lacing and stud and eye fastening. Boning at between one and four inch intervals, mostly no more than two inches apart. Several re-enforced seams inbetween the boning.

Lace trim across the top is not original and is coming loose: have left as is as the new owner may wish to remove. Elastic panel at base for movement.

This item was purchased at a Battersea Vintage Clothing Fair, London in 2005.

Era - Mid to late 1920s.

Fabric - cotton damask with lace (not original, possibly added in the 1930s)

Colour - ivory

Label - Gossard

Size -  Large. Corsets are recommended to be 4 inches smaller than the lady who wears them, although they are adjustable to fit.

Please note that corset is too big for the mannequin and will fit closely on the correct size body.

Measurements

(Measurements taken with the corset fully laced up)

Under bust: 32''

Waist: 28''

Hips: 40''

Total length: 14.5'' (front centre; shortest); 18'' (side, longest)

Origin: USA

Condition: very good; the rubber stopper has gone from five of the six straps (can be replaced with modern versions). Some small stains here and there. Elastic in the straps and in the back elastic panel has lost some stretch. Some small holes within the stains ie. front right of hooks, near the hem.

We  have washed the corset, but not soaked due to the metal components.  In over all very good condition for a wearable corset of this age.

Recommended Care: hand wash.
