Black silk Deco diamante buckle dress 1920-30s 10

Product content

Sleeveless evening dress with detailed construction of geometrical patterns flaring into a wide skirt below hips.

Neck and arm openings are finished with a soft self-fabric piped hem. Soft looped cotton belt loops at the waist.

No openings - pops straight over your head.

Dress was updated in the '30s by adding a matching soft silk belt with Deco diamante buckle, but the shape wasn't altered so you have the choice to wear it in the style of both eras. We have photographed both with, and without the belt.

This is a stunning example of a Deco styled little black dress and was acquired from a private collection of vintage from famed Adelaide shop "The Banana Room".

Note that fabric is quite sheer, so a petticoat or slip is recommend unless you're going for a very revealing look.

Condition: Very good - some darned repairs to one shoulder (see last image) and the black cotton has turned browning over the years, but it makes it much easier to see the wonderful seaming. The delightful buckle is missing some stones but these can be replaced by a visit to your local bead shop. A couple of small spots on the silk that may come out with a specialist cleaner. Note that we haven't cleaned this dress due the age and fragility but it is quite clean.

Recommended Care: Specialist dry cleaner. Cleaning is recommended as infrequently as the silk is old and fragile.
