Beaded ballgown with sash 1940-50s 12

Strappy ballgown with fitted shelf-style bodice and very full skirt.

  • Double layer to the front of the bodice, the outer layer is gathered and trimmed in pearl beads
  • Very full, double circle skirt - would look lovely with a full petticoat underneath.
  • Side metal zipper.
  • Wide sash or stole attaches to one inside of the bodice with a button and loop, and through a self-fabric loop on one side of the skirt, just below the waistband and is lined with matching satin.
  • Piping trim to waist.
  • This beautiful dress and sash featured in the "Era of Grace and Elegance 1950s fashion parade" for the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival 2016 - see last pics, as worn by model Morgan.


Date - Late 1940s to very early 1950s

Fabric -   Rayon faille in a dusty pink/mushroom shade, trimmed in grey satin.

Shoulder to waist: 18 inches -  46 cm

Total length:  57 inches -   144 cm

Sweep of skirt: approximately 7 metres: a crinoline petticoat would make the most of this full skirt.

Condition: Very good - a small number of beads are missing from the bodice, we've secured the adjoining ones so no more will fall.
